Tuscaloosa translator update
The license to cover has come through for the move-in from Demopolis on 105.1 MHz. W286BV has 200 watts and is said to be rebroadcasting AM station WTBC. WTBC recently dropped talk for classic hits as "The River" to coincide with being rebroadcast on FM.
105.1 has been on for a few weeks now. I don't have a decent audio setup (well, one in a box that needs to be opened and set up), so I can't comment on sound quality, but I can say that the presentation is pretty rough. The sat feed is OK, I suppose, if a bit on the dull side, but the liners sound pretty bad. I've even heard cases where they don't come in over the music but actually cut it off.
I wish the station all the best, but it sure doesn't compare favorably in terms of polish to other stations in the area. Right now, it sounds like something you'd hear in a town of 10,000, not a metro area the size of Tuscaloosa. Perhaps it's a work in progress. I certainly hope so.
